The Taters and Their Tots

With each passing day, I'm learning more and more about what works and what doesn't for me and my children and homeschooling. The first week, I learned that the curriculum I bought is great. If you're interested in a gander, here's the website: AO Publications We are using the Lifepac series from that company.

I also learned in the first week that physical education, or at least physical activity is a must EVERY day. This is especialy true for my sons. My daughter is a total bookworm and would be fine if she just knew that she could curl up with Nancy Drew as soon as her work is done. My sons, however, cannot focus for a long period without getting up and running around in some form or fashion.

Thirty to forty-five minutes is their limit, and then they need to move around. It's like they literally have to get the wiggles out. They have to seriously move to exorcise them from their little bodies. And I don't just mean walk about the room for a couple of minutes. We go out to our 1/4 mile long driveway and full out RUN for 20 minutes.

While we are running - and I use the word "we" very loosely. I mostly just supervise this part. But while we are outside, they just have to stop and pick wildflowers. They have to catch some kind of bug and let it crawl on them. They have to get down and put their hands in the dirt a little. These are things that boys just HAVE to do.

So my solution to our need for increased physical activity yesterday was the fitness park.

There are all sorts of benches and bars and big signs demonstrating the exercises everything is intended for. Of course, we didn't use everything for exactly the intended purpose. But, basically, the kids had fun picking and choosing...
Kole sailed right through those monkey bar type things. Riley had a harder time with those...

I love the determined look on my baby's face here:
I couldn't help but crack up at this. Kole took the word "curl" quite literally...

Monkey see, Monkey do....

Pull ups, anyone? I couldn't even do one. It was quite embarrassing...

And that was our adventure for the day yesterday. Today, we're off to Library Story Time and I hope the screaming child that attended last week .... well, never mind.

Happy Wednesday!!

Denise, I am so proud of you taking on this job, this ministry. I know you will do wonderfully. I understand there is a wonderful little school (Texas Tech) near you that has a great Education department if you are serious about being an educator beyond your own children. You would be and are an excellent teacher. May God continue to greatly bless your efforts. Wish I was there with all the family this weekend for the wedding. Take care and know we love you guys. Uncle David
